Before You Meet With Your Doctor

  • Keep a notebook of your symptoms. ​

  • Describe them in extreme detail.​

  • Research your symptoms using the symptom selector provided above.

  • Do a Google search for diagnostic tests based on your symptoms.​

  • ​For example, type into the search bar:​ “What are the diagnostic tests for bloody diarrhea?”​

  • Write down some of the tests.​

  • If you are going to your doctor with a friend or family member, tell them what you are feeling.​​​

Things to Ask Your Doctor

  • “When I looked up my symptoms I saw that  ____  might be the case. What do you think?” ​

  • “I am wondering how this could be diagnosed or confirmed?”​

  • “Where could I learn more about this?”​​

  • “Are there any support services that could help me learn more?”​

  • “Who can help me find out? How can I get in touch with them?”​​

  • If you don't understand something, just ask: “What do you mean when you say _________ ?”​​
